Report Generator: Answers from Your Portfolio in Plain Language

Generate custom patent reports in ArcPrime using natural language queries with table and chart outputs

Written by Jonathan Liu

The Report Generator lets you ask questions about your patent portfolio in plain language and get answers as tables, charts, or a single number. Save the reports you rely on, and pin them to the Portfolio Overview so the whole team tracks the same metrics.

The Report Generator page opened from Reports in the top navigation, showing the Try These Queries suggestions, the My Reports button, and the Generate new report for... field at the bottom

Key Capabilities

  • Plain-language questions — Ask the way you would ask a colleague. ArcPrime interprets the request against your workspace's technology names, statuses, and custom fields.

  • Transparent reasoning — Every report opens with How this report was generated, explaining how the question was read.

  • Table, chart, and single-number views — Switch between Table and Chart; counts and totals render as one large number.

  • Full downloadsExport Results gives you the complete data as CSV or Excel.

  • Saved reports and dashboards — Save a report, rerun it later, and add it to the Portfolio Overview as a widget.

How It Works

Open Reports in the top navigation. Enter a question in the Generate new report for... field, such as "List top 10 pending cases that we have spent the most on", and click Send. ArcPrime generates the report and opens it.

Read the reasoning panel first, then the results. Use the refresh icon to rerun against current data, and ask a follow-up in the field at the bottom to start a new report. Click Save Report to keep it; saved reports live under My Reports.

Suggestions listed under Try These Queries: show the kinds of questions that work well, from chart counts to spend rankings to filings over time.
